“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” –William Arthur Ward
Why is it Thanksgiving is often called "a favorite holiday?" Perhaps for many reasons, but most likely because it is simply about gathering, celebrating our abundance of food, good fortune and showing gratitude.
From the people who love you to the people who challenge you, to the people who support you at work, here are 5 ways you can show your gratitude. In our busy lives, often it takes just a gentle reminder to show our gratitude.

1. Words are powerful. Tell someone you admire how they make the world a better place. Write a note thanking them for something they've done in the past that made a difference in your day or just simply a quick note saying hello, I've been thinking about you and hope all is well!

2. Show kindness & respect, especially to those in the service industry. It is an extremely busy time for retail and restaurant employees and believe me they are tested daily. Show some understanding by adding an extra few dollars to your tip, be sure to sincerely thank a retail clerk for helping, even if the result was not what you wanted, thank them for trying. Most service industry folks are trying to keep their heads above water and the majority do truly care and take pride in what they do - show them some extra love over the holidays!

3. If you have a co-worker who you know is struggling or working extra long hours, grab them a coffee or lunch. It is amazing how far this small token of gratitude can go!

4. When you order a coffee, pay for the person behind you. When you are at the drive-through, pay an extra $5 for the next person in line. My husband began doing this many years ago and I've always admired that he never forgets to pick up someone else's coffee or lunch at least 2 times a month! It was a little habit he has passed on to myself, and for that I am grateful.

5. Volunteer. This goes without saying, however, sometimes a long term volunteer commitment isn't in our cards, so look for a one-time opportunity to share your talents.
